68. Sir GILBERT PARKER

asked the wine production for Australia for the years 1881, 1891, and 1911, respectively; what was the wine and chilled meat production, respectively, for the same periods; and what was the export of each product to England for the same periods?

Mr. ROBERTSON

The quantity of wine produced in Australia in 1911 was 4,936,000 gallons. Exclusive of the small production of Western Australia, for which figures are not available prior to 1893, the production in 1881 was 1,450,000 gallons and in 1891 3,431,000 gallons. Particulars for the total output of the meat freezing works in the Commonwealth are not available. The imports of wine from Australia were 21,000 gallons in 1881, 387,000 gallons in 1891, and 963,000 gallons in 1911. The total imports of refrigerated meat from Australia in 1881 (if any) cannot be given. In 1891 they amounted to about 212,000 cwts., and in 1911 to 2,136,000 cwts.

Mr. KING

Were this wine and chilled meat provided at the recent dinner in favour of Colonial Preference, and what was the profit on them?
