HC Deb 17 October 1912 vol 42 cc1417-8
66. Mr. BRACE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has received appeals from members of the Dock Workers Trade Unions and other societies to amend the Law dealing with the load-line on ships; and, in view of the fact that the present load-line has been responsible for loss of life, will he undertake to amend the Law by re-establishing the old Plimsoll load-line, and if he can promise early legislation upon this matter?

Mr. BUXTON

I have received copies of a resolution respecting load-line which has been passed by various branches of the Dock, Wharf, Riverside, and General Workers Union. As already stated in this House, the question is receiving consideration in connection with the findings of the Court of Inquiry which investigated the loss of the ss. "North Briton."

Mr. BRACE

Will the right hon. Gentleman reply to the latter part of my question?

Mr. BUXTON

The answer I gave was that I would consider the matter directly I get the Report of the Wreck-Inquiry.
