HC Deb 17 October 1912 vol 42 cc1422-3
89. Colonel BURN

asked the right hon. Gentleman what report he has received of the state of health of Norman Tree, now undergoing sentence of twelve months' imprisonment for petty theft, who is suffering from tuberculosis?

Mr. McKENNA

The last medical report I have received shows that the state of the prisoner's lungs shows some slight improvement. His weight is more than when he was received in prison, and he continues to work, and to take his diet and treatment satisfactorily.

Colonel BURN

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that when a gentleman is willing to send the man to a sanatorium, and then get him sent abroad for employment, it would be as well to consider the question?

Mr. McKENNA

I am not aware that any gentleman is willing to send him to a sanatorium.

Colonel BURN

I told the right hon. Gentleman that on two occasions.

Mr. McKENNA

The hon. Gentleman is mistaken.
