HC Deb 16 October 1912 vol 42 cc1230-1
41. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman has received a communication from the women clerks employed on the unemployment insurance work protesting against the low rates of pay for extra duty awarded to them in respect of overtime worked by them in connection with the National Insurance Act in July last; and, if so, what he is doing in the matter?

Mr. BUXTON

I have received a communication in the sense indicated by the hon. Member, which is receiving my attention. I would, however, point out that it is specifically laid down in the terms of appointment of Labour Exchange officers that no payment for overtime will be made. It is, however, proposed to grant gratuities to officers in respect of overtime work performed during June and July out of a lump sum specially sanctioned by the Treasury for this purpose.
