50. Captain FABERasked the Prime Minister whether he has considered a scheme for the maintenance of the normal food supply of the people in the event of war, so as to avoid panic prices and possibly starvation; and whether he can give any outline of any such scheme?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEAs my right hon. Friend has already stated, the Government are fully alive to the question of the food supplies of this country in times of national emergency, and the various aspects of the matter are receiving careful consideration by different Sub-Committees of the Imperial Defence Committee, ft would not be in the public interest to make a more explicit statement on the subject.
§ Colonel YATEHas the attention of the Government been drawn to the great commercial success of the grain elevators 1222 and silos now working in Liverpool, and will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of establishing them in other ports?
§ Mr. SPEAKERThe hon. Gentleman had better give notice. The right hon. Gentleman cannot be expected to answer a question of that sort without notice.
