§ Mr. RUNCIMANFifty-six cases of wart disease were reported in Staffordshire and four in Shropshire, in the year 1911. During the present year 896 cases have been reported in Staffordshire, and 481 in Shropshire. It must not be inferred, however, from these figures that there has been a great increase, or indeed any increase at all, in the prevalence of the disease. It was not until this year that measures were taken to ensure systematic reporting in the counties in question.
