HC Deb 28 November 1912 vol 44 cc1481-2
74. Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked whether the Postmaster-General's attention has been drawn to a statement of the Postmaster-General of Australia that the Government's agitation for the completion of the All-Red cable route by laying a Transatlantic cable was not going to be discontinued because it had hitherto been unsuccessful; and, in view of this fact, will he expedite the reply of the Government to the demand of the Commonwealth Govrnment that the subsidiary conference should be called?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I am unable to add to the reply which was given to the hon. Member on this subject on the 21st instant.

Major ARCHER-SHEE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that New Zealand has joined Australia in this demand for a subsidiary conference, and have those great Dominions not as much right to hold their conference as this country?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I have had no official communication from New Zealand. All I know about the matter is what the hon. Gentleman says.
