HC Deb 25 November 1912 vol 44 c790
8. Colonel YATE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he will take into consideration the question of giving encouragement to the cultivation of apples in this country, with a view to securing a cheaper and more plentiful supply of this fruit for the benefit of the poor than there is at present?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Runciman)

The answer is in the affirmative. If the hon. and gallant Member will let me have any definite suggestions which occur to him for the promotion of the object which he has in view I shall be very glad indeed to receive and to consider them.

Mr. C. BATHURST

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are hundreds of thousands of apples in the West of England that rot under the trees every year owing to there being a glut in the local market?
