Mr. KINGasked the Prime Minister whether he has taken note of the feeling existing against the proposal to erect the new buildings of the new Delhi in the Italian Renaissance style and of the opinion that a native Indian style should 814 be adopted; and whether he will assure the House that no decision will be taken to build the new Delhi in the Italian style until the full proposals of the Government of India have been pubished and the House allowed an opportunity of considering them, or at least until the proposals have been placed before the public for criticism or approval?

No decision as to the style of architecture to be employed has been reached. The Secretary of State is unable to give the further assurance asked for.
