HC Deb 21 November 1912 vol 44 c469
55. Mr. LESLIE SCOTT

asked if the lady inspector of boarded-out children in the midland district accepted an appointment under the National Insurance Act in August last; whether her successor has been appointed and when she took up her duties; and if no one has been appointed, or if her successor has not taken up her duties, what steps have been taken to prevent the children suffering in consequence?

Mr. LEWIS

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. A lady has been offered and has accepted the vacant post, but she has not yet taken up her duties. Some alterations in the districts are in contemplation, and meanwhile temporary arrangements have been made for carrying on the work by means of the existing staff.

Mr. BARLOW

Would the right hon. Gentleman inform us whether the duties were in fact discharged from August up to this temporary appointment being made, and, if so, why?

Mr. LEWIS

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will give notice of that question.
