HC Deb 20 November 1912 vol 44 c279
36. Mr. WEIGALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of extra remuneration sanctioned to be paid to local Excise officers in consideration of their extra duties in connection with the National Insurance Act, and from what date this increase of pay accrues?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)

I am sorry that in my answer to the question put to me by the hon. Member on 14th instant I did not make it clear that, while substantial improvements in both pay and conditions have been granted to the Customs and Excise service, no particular improvement was ear-marked as extra remuneration for new insurance work.

Mr. WEIGALL

Is there any extra remuneration included for Excise officers in consideration of their extra duties under the Insurance Act?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

There is no particular improvement ear-marked for that purpose, but the extra work they are doing under the Insurance Act is taken into account in fixing their remuneration.
