HC Deb 19 November 1912 vol 44 cc97-8
11. Sir ARTHUR GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he can state the date on which he was advised that the Treasury had no effective answer to the contentions raised by Mr. T. Gibson Bowles in the recent case of Bowles v. the Bank of England; and whether the action had actually been commenced at the time that he received this advice?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)

I am unable to add anything to the reply given yesterday to the hon. Member by my right hon. Friend the Attorney-General.

Sir A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Attorney-General refused to answer the question?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

If I may say so, I think that that was a perfectly proper line to take.

Sir A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN

Then the right hon. Gentleman also refuses to answer?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Certainly.
