HC Deb 12 November 1912 vol 43 cc1815-6
86. Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the President of the Board of Trade what powers he is able to assert over railway companies to compel them to avoid unreasonable inconvenience to the travelling public?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of, TRADE (Mr. Buxton)

The statutory jurisidiction respecting complaints of the want of reasonable railway facilities rests with the Railway and Canal Commissioners; but, as my hon. Friend is aware, the Board of Trade are always glad to use their good offices with the railway companies in regard to any particular cases of public inconvenience that may be brought to their notice.

Mr. CATHCART WASON

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the fact that all the Northern counties, especially c Orkney, are put to great inconvenience by r the present arrangements, and that a whole day is lost in getting to Edinburgh or t Glasgow?

Mr. BUXTON

That will be borne in mind.
