§ 34. Mr. CASSELasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the evidence given before the Departmental Committee on Local Taxation was completed in May of this year and has been published; will he say what is the reason for the delay of a Report of the Committee which was appointed with a view to its reporting speedily; and whether the Report may be expected before the end of the year?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI am informed that the evidence was not completed in May, the Committee having taken further oral evidence since the publication of the instalment of evidence taken up to that date. I am unable to make any announcement as to the date when the Committee's Report may be expected.
§ Mr. CASSELIs the right hon. Gentleman aware, in reference to this question, he has always said we must await the Report of the Committee specially appointed to deal with this. What is the reason for delay?
§ Mr. LLOYD GEORGEI think it important that the Committee should deal thoroughly with the subject.
