Gentleman whether his attention has been called to the fact that certain rating authorities in Scotland have been advised that Section 9 of the House Letting Act is incapable of effective application, and that they have no longer power to grant, as formerly, exemptions from rates to the very poorest class of the community; and what steps, if any, he proposes to take in the matter?
Mr. McKINNON WOODI am aware that certain rating authorities have been advised as stated by the hon. Baronet, but I am informed that other rating authorities are devising methods for continuing to grant exemptions from rates to poor occupiers of small dwelling houses. I am watching the matter carefully.
