HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 cc826-7
37. Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman's attention has been called to the frequent unpunetuality of the arrival at Londonderry of the mails carried from England by the Lame and Stranraer route, and to the loss and inconvenience caused thereby; whether these delays took place in England or Scotland, or on the steamers, or in Ireland; and whether representations have been addressed to the companies concerned, and with what result?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I am aware that there have been several occasions recently on which the mails viâ Stranraer and Larne have been delayed in delivery at Londonderry. These delays were for the most part due to the late running of the mail train from London to Stranraer owing to fog and to accidents on the line, and were therefore unavoidable. The service is kept under observation, and representations are made to the companies concerned when necessary.
