HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 cc845-6
31. Mr. HAMILTON BENN

asked whether a friendly society is entitled to insist on a member reducing his contribution to the non-State benefits by 4d. a week unless he selects that society as his approved society, or whether the member is entitled to choose whether he continues his existing contract or reduces his contribution?

Mr. MASTERMAN

A scheme submitted by a registered friendly society under Section 72 of the National Insurance Act must not discriminate between members who become insured persons. If the scheme provides for a reduction of contributions, such reduction applies to all such members, whether they do or do not take the society as their approved society. Similarly, a scheme which gives an option to such members to continue their existing contracts or reduce their contributions applies to all such members alike.
