HC Deb 21 May 1912 vol 38 c1734
Mr. HUNT

asked whether a lieutenant-general on the Army Council would lose over £1,800 a year if he resigned as a result of not agreeing with the policy of the Council?

Colonel SEELY

On the assumption that the officer in question went to half-pay, he would lose £1,850 a year.

Mr. HUNT

Is not this exposing a soldier to the same temptation as a politician—to hold on to his position against his judgment. Is it quite fair to ask such an officer to give an unbiassed judgment under such circumstances?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a point the hon. Member must decide for himself.
