HC Deb 16 May 1912 vol 38 c1262
Mr. SANDYS

asked whether the Attorney-General, in conducting a prosecution on 30th April at Dublin with reference to an outrage in county Clare, stated that the scene of the outrage in question was a plague spot on the map of Ireland; and what steps he is taking to restore order in this county?

Mr. BIRRELL

The answer to the first paragraph of the question is in the affirmative. As I have already stated, there is a large extra force of police in the county and special measures have been, and are being, taken for the prevention of outrages. The task of restoring order to a district which has been disturbed for a century is not an easy one for anybody.

Mr. SANDYS

asked whether an attempt was made on 27th April to blow up a farmer's house near Nenagh, Tipperary, by means of a bomb; whether threatening notices, signed Captain Moonlight, demanding that John Doheny, the owner of the farm, should surrender some of his land had been nailed up on his premises; and what steps he is taking to prevent these outrages?

Mr. BIRRELL

The facts are as stated. Two arrests have been made. The police are doing all that is possible to prevent similar occurrences.
