HC Deb 14 May 1912 vol 38 c967
Sir W. BYLES

asked whether the sum of 3s. 6d. mentioned in the Return of claims for compensation for damage to property by rioters just presented to Parliament represents the total amount claimed for by the county borough of Salford for the disturbances of the past twelve months?

Mr. McKENNA

Three shillings and sixpence is returned by the borough of Salford as the only claim made on the town council during the period referred to in the Return for damage coming within the Riot (Damages) Act. The claim was afterwards abandoned. The Act, of course, applies only to buildings and machinery, not to vehicles in the streets.
