HC Deb 09 May 1912 vol 38 cc588-9
Mr. RUPERT GWYNNE

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state on what grounds his Department are refusing requests for telephone signs to owners of licensed premises?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Call-office signs have not been supplied to the owners of such premises since May, 1908, either by the Post Office or by the National Telephone Company, as they are not considered to be premises suitable for call-offices. The rule not to supply such signs does not apply to residential hotels or restaurants.

Mr. RUPERT GWYNNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that quite lately persons have been induced to have telephones installed in their licensed premises on the understanding that they could be used as call offices?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

No, Sir; but if the hon. Member will be good enough to supply me with a case I shall be happy to inquire into it. I shall be exceedingly surprised to find that the case is as he states.

Mr. RUPERT GWYNNE

I will send particulars.
