HC Deb 28 March 1912 vol 36 c573
Colonel YATE

asked on what occasions within the past fifty years Turkey had assisted the British Government in the suppression of piracy and the slave trade in the Persian Gulf?

Sir E. GREY

I am not aware that any effective action has been taken in the Persian Gulf by the Turkish authorities with the objects indicated. The action to which reference was made in the reply given to the question asked by the hon. Member for the Bridgeton Division of Glasgow on the 25th instant concerned the Shat-el-Arab only and was not taken in co-operation with His Majesty's Government.
