§ Colonel YATEasked on what occasions within the past fifty years Turkey had assisted the British Government in the suppression of piracy and the slave trade in the Persian Gulf?
§ Sir E. GREYI am not aware that any effective action has been taken in the Persian Gulf by the Turkish authorities with the objects indicated. The action to which reference was made in the reply given to the question asked by the hon. Member for the Bridgeton Division of Glasgow on the 25th instant concerned the Shat-el-Arab only and was not taken in co-operation with His Majesty's Government.
