HC Deb 28 March 1912 vol 36 c612
Mr. BONAR LAW

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman the Prime Minister whether he has any statement to make with regard to business?

The PRIME MINISTER

On Monday we shall take the Second Reading of the Temperance (Scotland) Bill, and thereafter the Second Reading of the Army (Annual) Bill.

On Tuesday, the Budget will be introduced.

On Wednesday, we shall ask the House to sit at twelve o'clock, and take the Adjournment Motion.

When the House resumes on Tuesday, 9th April, we shall move the Speaker out of the Chair on Civil Service Estimates.

On Wednesday, the Committee stage of the Army (Annual) Bill will be taken.

On Thursday, the Irish Government Bill will be introduced.

Mr. BONAR LAW

As I understand the-first business on resuming will be that the Speaker leave the Chair on the Civil Service Estimates, I am sure that the right hon. Gentleman will agree that it is desirable that the first business after the short recess should be one in which many Members of the House are not interested-Would it not be possible to alter the programme in such a way as to allow the Speaker to be moved out of the Chair so as to take Estimates of a non-controversial character on the Tuesday and for the half-day on Wednesday? I would suggest, if I am not interfering with the programme, that the Scottish Temperance Bill would have to be taken on the Thursday instead of the Home Rule Bill, and I do not see that that would interfere with the prospects of the measure.

Mr. LOUGH

Having regard to the disorganisation of railway traffic in many parts, may I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman will consider if a Tuesday sitting could be avoided?

The PRIME MINISTER

I shall be sorry to leave out of our arrangement the Tuesday sitting. Of course, I will consider the suggestions made by the right hon. Gentleman.

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

Can the Prime Minister say how many days he proposes to allot to the First Reading of the Government of Ireland Bill?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir, I cannot.
