§ Sir HILDRED CARLILEasked the Home Secretary whether he can state the number of aliens tried at assizes, the Central Criminal Court, and at Quarter Sessions in the years 1906 to 1911, inclusive?
§ Mr. McKENNANo, Sir. As I stated in answer to a question put by the Noble Lord the Member for the Newton Division of Lancashire a few days ago, the only figures available are those of aliens received into prison on conviction, which are published in considerable detail every year. No useful purpose would be served by attempting to distinguish over the whole period named those dealt with by the Courts specified in the question; but I may say that there can be no doubt that they would represent only a very small part of the total of 16,878 for the six years by far the greater number being dealt with by Courts of Summary Jurisdiction.
