HC Deb 21 March 1912 vol 35 c2060
Mr. STEPHEN GWYNN

asked why the telegraph messengers at Cardiff Post Office were forbidden to wear the shamrock on St Patrick's Day; whether any general prohibition has been issued; and, if so, why has this course been adopted?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

There is no prohibition against the wearing of shamrock by Postal officials on St. Patrick's Day, and it is frequently worn. I have no information as to the incident at Cardiff to which the hon. Member refers, but I am making inquiry.
