HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 cc794-5
Mr. BRADY

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the Commissioners of Woods and Forests are prepared to recommend the Treasury to invest the revenue derived from quit rents in Ireland in Irish securities; and whether, in view of this, his Department will invest at least a portion of such revenue in the purchase of land and towards afforestation in Ireland?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I understand that the Commissioner is considering the possibility of recommending to the Treasury the placing of part of the capital of the Land Revenues in Irish investments. I cannot undertake that such money should be used towards afforestation, but I hope it may be possible to place it in Irish Securities and Irish Land when suitable opportunities arise.
