HC Deb 04 March 1912 vol 35 c25
Viscount WOLMER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet entered on his duties as Ecclesiastical Commissioner; and whether he has taken or intends to take the prescribed oath, namely: I do hereby solemnly and in the presence of God testify and declare that I am a member of the Church of England as by Law established?

Mr. McKENNA

I have not yet attended a meeting of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners or taken the prescribed oath. I cannot make any announcement as to my intentions.

Viscount WOLMER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the House of Commons refused to allow Charles Bradlaugh to take an oath in which he did not believe?

Mr. McKENNA

I believe that is so.
