40. Mr. O'DONNELL

asked the President of the Board of Education what facilities are given to the children of primary schools in Wales to acquire secondary education?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)

There are 109 Grant-earning secondary schools in Wales, including Monmouthshire, containing 14,952 pupils, of whom 6,226 occupy free places specially reserved for pupils who have been under instruction for at least two years in a public elementary school immediately before entering the secondary school.
