HC Deb 20 June 1912 vol 39 cc1850-1
65. Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether the solicitors who formerly acted as law agents for the Congested Districts Board have been appointed to act in the same capacity for the Scottish Board of Agriculture; if so, whether they will be required to give the whole of their time to the business of the Board of Agriculture; if not, has the Board considered the economical advantage, in view of the many claims for compensation likely to arise, of advertising for and engaging a solicitor who would give his whole time to the work of the Department?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the negative. The Board has considered both the advantages and disadvantages of the course suggested by my hon. Friend.

Mr. WATT

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that the fees likely to be charged against his Department in all probability buy up six ordinary solicitors?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

My hon. Friend did not pay attention to the answer. The answer is in the negative.

Mr. WATT

Quite so.
