HC Deb 20 June 1912 vol 39 cc1844-5
68. Mr. LEACH

asked if the Insurance Commissioners will issue a Regulation showing whether a woman who does laundry work on two days a week at two different houses, and who is the wife of an insured worker who supports her, must be insured; and, if so, which of the two employers must pay the employer's 3d.?

Mr. MASTERMAN

If the employment is regular she must be insured unless she obtains a certificate of exemption under Section 2 of the Act, e.g., on the ground that she is ordinarily and mainly dependent on her husband for her livelihood. Whether she is exempted or not the employer's contribution will be payable in respect of her, and in the absence of any special arrangement the first employer in the week will be liable.
