§ 70. Sir CHARLES HUNTERasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that there are many inaccuracies in the Roll of Honour now on view at the Victoria and Albert Museum; and if he could have it checked by every regiment before it is sent to South Africa?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Tennant)There is no official information in the War Office concerning the Roll of Honour. The War Department would be prepared to consider whether facilities could be afforded to any interested persons to verify the accuracy of the entries on the Roll, but it is regretted that the Department cannot undertake the work of verification.
§ Sir C. HUNTERWhat Department is responsible for drawing up the Roll?
§ Mr. TENNANTI could not make inquiries this morning, but I believe that it is an entirely unofficial document.
§ Sir C. HUNTERIs the hon. Gentleman aware that there is a great deal of dissatisfaction in nearly every regiment at the number of inaccuracies that appear on this Roll?
§ Mr. TENNANTI was not aware of that, but if the hon. Gentleman will be good enough to bring any instances to my notice I will go into it and endeavour to get an alteration made.
§ Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAYWill the hon. Gentleman see that this document is not sent to South Africa until it is put right?
