§ Of the remaining three armoured ships, two were ordered by contract before the 31st March, 1912, and have since been laid down, and one was ordered on 3rd April, and is expected to be laid down this week. Of the three protected cruisers, one was ordered by contract before 31st March, 1912, and was laid down on 10th June. Of the other two, which are dockyard built, one has since been laid down, and the other is expected to be laid down very shortly. It must be remembered that in the case of contract-built ships the date of laying down does not affect the contract date for completion.
