HC Deb 19 June 1912 vol 39 c1654
34. Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether, in order to avoid the inconvenience and confusion which will arise from the necessity of occasionally stamping domestic servants' health insurance cards, not at the end of the month when wages are paid, but a fortnight before the end of the month in advance of the payment of waged, he can arrange that the cards, at any rate in these cases, shall always expire on the last day of a month, preferably of that in which quarter day occurs rather than on the 13th October and other like dates in the middle of the month?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The inconvenience suggested by the hon. Member can only occur at the end of a quarter's contribution; and I am informed that even if the card were terminated at the end of the calendar month, there would be many employers who would not find this date coincident with the payment of wages. It is hoped, however, that shortly after the end of a year from the commencement of the Act the cards will be made to run for periods coinciding approximately with the calendar quarters.
