HC Deb 19 June 1912 vol 39 c1648
16. Mr. WILLIAM PEEL

asked whether it is the intention of the Government to-introduce a Bill to amend the National Insurance Act?

Mr. MASTERMAN

No suggestions have yet been received showing any Amendment of the Act which would be an improvement on the present law. If, in its working alterations requiring legislation prove to be desirable, such legislation will be proposed at the appropriate time.

Mr. PEEL

Did not the right hon. Gentleman, speaking at Stratford, suggest to his constituents that he intended, or rather that the Government intended, to introduce an amendment of the Bill—

Mr. MASTERMAN

I have not spoken at Stratford, and that place is not in my Constituency.

Mr. PEEL

Well, wherever it was, has the right hon. Gentleman not suggested on a public platform—

Mr. SPEAKER

That does not arise out of the question on the Paper. The hon. Member has got a plain answer to his question.
