HC Deb 18 June 1912 vol 39 c1491
64. Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the police took shorthand notes of the speeches made at the Malatesta demonstration in Trafalgar Square on Sunday, 9th June; who gave orders to have these notes taken; and are such reports taken down of all meetings held in Trafalgar Square?

Mr. McKENNA

Notes were taken by the police on the occasion in question, in accordance with regular practice as regards meetings in Trafalgar Square. I do not suppose that my hon. Friend or other orators who addressed this meeting intended their utterances to be confidential or secret.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Did these police people take down all the nice things I said about the Liberal Government, and store them all up against them?

Mr. McKENNA

I must confess I have not read my hon. Friend's remarks.
