HC Deb 17 June 1912 vol 39 cc1301-2
26. Mr. KELLY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether about March last advertisements were published in the local papers inviting sub-postmasters and others to apply for the position of local agent for unemployment insurance in Strabane, county Tyrone, and other centres; whether the postmaster has since been appointed local agent for Strabane; and, if so, will he say if he is to be remunerated at the ordinary rate at which local agents elsewhere are to be paid?

Mr. ROBERTSON

Advertisements were issued for local agents at Strabane and other centres in the local papers. The work at Strabane is being undertaken by the postmaster under an arrangement with the Postmaster-General. The remuneration to be paid to salaried postmasters is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Postmaster-General.

Mr. MOORE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware where Strabane is?

Mr. ROBERTSON

It is given in the question as in county Tyrone.

Mr. MOORE

It is generally called Straban.
