§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. McKenna)According to the latest returns, the number of mines was 3,958; the number of factories, 114,442; the number of workshops 178,801. The authorised number of inspectors of all grades for factories and workshops is 205; and the authorised number for mines and quarries, including new appointments sanctioned but not yet made, is ninety-one. Of the latter, eight are assigned for quarry inspection only.
