HC Deb 17 June 1912 vol 39 cc1310-1
48. Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

had given notice of the following question: To ask the Prime Minister whether he can now see his way to accompany the Government of Ireland Bill by some such proviso as Mr. Gladstone in 1891 undertook to propose, with a view either to completing the settlement of the land question by Act of the Imperial Parliament within a limited period, to be specified in the Bill, or to committing the power of dealing with it to the local legislature?

I have been asked to postpone this question till Thursday. I assume that Clause 2, which makes land purchase a reserved service, will not be carried in the meantime?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid it is impossible that that should happen.
