HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 c1042
50. Mr. FRED HALL (Dulwich)

asked the Prime Minister if his attention has been called to the speech delivered by Mr. Ben Tillett on 10th June, urging the transport workers on strike to start a civilian force and to arm themselves with the thickest of cudgels in order to assist them in attaining their objects; and whether, in view of the policy of violence thus advocated by the leader of the strikers, he will take effective steps to protect any men wishing to work?

Mr. HARRY LAWSON

Before the right hon. Gentleman answers, may I ask him, whether his attention has been called to a further speech made by Mr. Ben Tillett threatening violence, and, I believe, even threatening to shoot, against Lord Devonport?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have not seen any report of the speech in question; effective steps have been and will be taken to protect men willing to work.

Mr. W. THORNE

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman is aware that the blacklegs on the "Lady Jocelyn" are already armed?
