HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 c1053
64. Mr. KING

asked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that at the recent Assizes at Liverpool Mr. Peter Smith, chief secretary of elementary education under the Liverpool local education authority, was tried for forgery and larceny, and that, though Mr. Smith was acquitted by the jury, the judge stated that this office, meaning the Liverpool Education Committee's office, needs overhauling; whether any report on the affairs and accounts of the Liverpool Education Committee has since been asked for by the Board; and whether any action will be taken to restore public confidence in the administration of education in Liverpool?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. J. A. Pease)

The internal administration of their offices is a matter solely for the local education authorities, and I do not propose to take any action.
