HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 cc842-3
17. Mr. KING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the band of the 1st Life Guards is announced to play at Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon, on 6th July next, at a gathering half of the proceeds of which are to be given to the Primrose League; and whether the performances of military bands at political party gatherings is in conformity with the Regulations?

Mr. TENNANT

Inquiries are being made into this matter.

Mr. KING

Will the inquiry be pressed, because the matter is one of considerable importance?

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

Have military bands not played at Nonconformist chapels?

Mr. TENNANT

I am unaware of it. I will forward the inquiry of the hon. Member (Mr. King).

Colonel YATE

If military bands are prevented from playing at gatherings of this sort, will the Government give an increased allowance to make up for the loss of money to the Band fund.

Mr. TENNANT

It is obvious that there ought to be a rule that no military band should play at any gathering of this kind.

Mr. KING

May I ask—

Mr. SPEAKER

It is impossible to get along if hon. Members persist in raising Debates upon each question.
