HC Deb 10 June 1912 vol 39 cc512-3
21. Captain CRAIG

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether, in the case of national school teachers who have retired recently or are about to retire after long and efficient service, they will be entitled to the new scale of pensions which has been repeatedly foreshadowed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer; and whether he can state the date on which it is expected the new scale will be made public?

Mr. MASTERMAN

I fear I can add nothing at present to the answer I gave on the 10th ultimo to the hon. Member for West Kerry, but I understand my right hon. Friend proposes to receive a deputation shortly with regard to the details of the new scheme.

Captain CRAIG

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that owing to the long delay in the settlement of this matter teachers have been dropping out under the old scheme and great discontent exists at the present moment, and would not it be possible to make the bases of settlement retrospective to cover such cases?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That is a point worth considering, but I do not think there has been any long delay as the scheme was only announced a few months ago.
