HC Deb 10 June 1912 vol 39 c502
7. Mr. LOUGH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Italy has signed the agreement for the removal of the Brussels Sugar Convention; how many Powers have done so; and what are the differences, if any, in the list of fresh signatories, apart from the United Kingdom, from the former Convention?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Acland)

The Protocol renewing the Brussels Sugar Convention for a further period of five years from 1st September, 1913, was signed on 17th March last by the representatives of the following States: Germany, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, France, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Peru, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland. For full information I would refer the hon. Member to the dispatches from His Majesty's Minister at Brussels on the subject, which have already been published in Commercial No. 3 (1912) Cd. 6146.

Mr. LOUGH

Can my hon. Friend not tell me whether Italy has signed the new Convention?

Mr. ACLAND

The position of Italy is fully explained in the White Paper to which I have referred my right hon. Friend.
