§ 8. Mr. RONALD M'NEILL
asked the Secretary of State for War for what reason officers serving in India do not receive, on completion of seven years' service in the rank of lieutenant, an in- 1824 crease of pay equivalent to the increase of Is. a day to which they would be entitled if quartered at home?
§ Mr. MONTAGU
Lieutenants of British regiments serving in India receive consolidated rates of pay which are higher than the rates of pay and allowances received at home. For this reason it has never been considered necessary to give a further increase after seven years in the rank of lieutenant to officers in India.
