HC Deb 25 July 1912 vol 41 c1360
88. Mr. BIRD

asked the Postmaster-General, in view of the inconvenience of large employers of labour in the carrying out of the National Insurance Act by the refusal of the Post Office to accept cheques in payment of insurance stamps, whether he is now able to give particulars of the method he proposes to adopt?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

As I informed the Noble Lord the Member for North Herts, postmasters have been instructed that cheques may be accepted in payment of insurance stamps, but the stamps cannot be supplied until an interval of four clear days has elapsed, in order to allow time to clear the cheques. Cheques may also be sent in payment, on the same conditions, to the General Post Offices in London, Edinburgh, and Dublin.
