HC Deb 22 July 1912 vol 41 c786
51 and 52. Mr. GODFREY LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Prime Minister (51) whether he has received the further memorial signed by Members of this House asking him to approach those witnesses who gave evidence before the Committee on Irish Finance for their consent to the publication of that portion of the evidence in respect of which no pledge of secrecy was made or is now insisted upon; (52) whether he will inform the House how many signatures of Members of this House were attached to the first memorial asking him to approach those witnesses who gave evidence before the Committee on Irish Finance for their consent to the publication of that portion of the evidence in respect of which no pledge of secrecy was made or is now insisted upon?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have received the additional memorial. To the first memorial 161 signatures were attached.

Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

What course does the Prime Minister propose to take in regard to the request embodied in the second memorial?

The PRIME MINISTER

The conditions I laid down have not yet been satisfied.

Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how many signatures he will require?

The PRIME MINISTER

I cannot say the precise number, but such as indicates a general desire on the part of the House.

Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that over fifty Members on his own side of the House signed the second memorial?

The PRIME MINISTER

I dare say that is so, but it does not affect my answer at all.
