HC Deb 18 July 1912 vol 41 cc539-40
Lord BALCARRES

I wish to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can make a statement as to the order of Votes to be taken on Monday next, and also whether he is aware that the Naval Supplementary Estimates are not yet in the Vote Office, as we understood was to be the case?

The CHANCELLOR Of THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)

In regard to the last question put by the Noble Lord, they were presented yesterday, and I cannot give an explanation at the present moment without some inquiry as to why they are not available. Inquiry will be made and everything will be done to enable Members to have them at the earliest possible moment. The First Order to-morrow will be the Second Reading of the Mental Deficiency Bill, and if time permits the Money Resolution for elementary school teachers' superannuation; the Third Order will be the Seal Fisheries (North Pacific) Bill, and the Report stage of the Light Railways Bill. On Monday the Navy Votes will be taken in the following order: Supplementary Estimates first, and then Vote A. On Tuesday, Scottish Estimates will be taken. On Wednesday, Irish Votes, and on Thursday the Vote for the Imperial Defence Committee.

Lord BALCARRES

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman not to finally settle upon the Irish Votes for Wednesday. I understand it is not a day convenient for hon. Members in this portion of the House who represent Irish constituencies. Might I also say it would probably be impossible to take Vote A on Monday next in view of the fact that the Supplementary Vote will occupy the greater bulk of that day.

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Noble Lord knows very well that in the matter of Votes that are allotted for discussion the Opposition have a predominant say.

Mr. BOOTH

We did not hear on this side of the House the Second Order for tomorrow. Perhaps the Chancellor of the Exchequer will be good enough to repeat it.

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Mental Deficiency Bill will be taken first, and if time permits the Money Resolution for the elementary school teachers' superannuation.

Mr. JAMES HOPE

What business is likely to be taken on to-morrow (Friday) week?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

There will be a statement made on Monday next.

Ordered, That the Proceedings on the Finance Bill have precedence this day of the Business of Supply.—[Mr. Lloyd George.]
