HC Deb 17 July 1912 vol 41 cc364-5
7. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he is aware that Messrs. Easton, Gibb, and Son, contractors for the naval base at Rosyth, applied during the first week of the present month to the Inverkeithing Labour Exchange for carpenters; that two carpenters were sent by the manager of the exchange to the firm and were engaged by a Mr. Williams on behalf of the firm, but when they were informed that the firm only paid 7d. per hour they refused to start work; and whether, seeing that the current rate of wage for the district is 8½d. per hour, he will take steps to compel this firm to observe the Fair-Wages Resolution?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

I instituted inquiries into the subject of this question as soon as it appeared on the Paper. The information asked for has not yet been received. Perhaps my hon. Friend would put a question again next week.
