HC Deb 17 July 1912 vol 41 cc392-3
32. Mr. J. H. THOMAS

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether societies which were provisionally approved by the Commissioners were definitely refused insurance cards until after the rules had been finally ratified; and, having regard to the fact that some societies which are not yet included in the lists of approved societies issued by the Commissioners experienced no difficulty in obtaining cards, and in view of the fact that the above-mentioned societies were interested in employers' organisations, what steps he proposes to take to deal with this treatment?

Mr. MASTERMAN

No societies have been provisionally approved. I do not know to what societies my hon. Friend refers in the second part of the question. Employers have been allowed to obtain a supply of ordinary cards for those of their employés who fail to obtain them by the ordinary channels, but these cards when distributed can be used by the employés for any approved society, and have no connection of any kind with any fund or society in which the employer may be interested.
