HC Deb 17 July 1912 vol 41 cc384-5
84. Mr. HILL-WOOD

asked the Post-master-General if he is aware that when a Post Office canvasser called on Mr. Sydney Boughen, wine and spirit merchant, of High Street, Buxton, on 12th June last in the course of business, the latter gentleman was informed by the canvasser that spaces for advertisement in the new issue of the Post Office Directory were not available for the wine and spirit trade; whether any other trade is discriminated against in the same manner; and on what grounds those who are gaining their livelihood in a legitimate manner are thus penalized?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

It is not the practice of the Post Office to accept advertisements of alcoholic liquors for the reasons given in my reply to the hon. Member for Christchurch on 12th March last.
